Portland Pedicabs rocks and rolls at the Rose City Rollers Bridgetown Brawl

Roller Derby Ladies Rock & Roll in our Portland Pedicab

Roller Derby Ladies Rock & Roll in our Portland Pedicab

Portland Pedicabs loves roller derby! Our dorky founder has coached roller derby for the last 5 years in Bellingham, Portland, and Chile as Saul T. Scrapper.

So when the Rose City Rollers asked for some help transporting their visiting derby guests at the Western Regional tournament, we jumped and spun an aerial 180 with a shoot the moon!

We worked with Schemestress and Draggin Lady to figure out the details.  Our pedalers would represent the RCR home league by proudly wearing the RCR fist logo.

We pedaled derby gals and guests all over the Lloyd.  Up to the bout hotel, the afterparties, sushi restaraunts and Red Robins.  I personally pedaled gals from Tuscon, Austin, Sacramento, Denver, Portland!, Bellingham! (nice to see Chaos Fury and Walker!) Salem, Corvallis, Los Angeles, Eugene, and even some Canadian derby dames!

Portland Pedicabs was proud to help share Portland with Rose City Roller’s visiting derby leagues via pedicab transportainment!

Portland Business Alliance Retirement Pedicab Cruise!

Portland Pedicab Retirement Tour

Portland Pedicab Retirement Tour

Portland Pedicabs was called to pedal Trish, the Portland Business Alliance’s “Queen of Chamber” for 32 years!

All of the PBA’s staff lined up outside their office building in SW Portland and stood in front of our Portland Pedicab, obscuring Trish’s getaway chariot.  As she walked down the front stairs with her partner, the sea of colleagues parted and revealed our waiting Portland Pedicab!

We pedaled her and her partner away from the office Andre along the waterfront and then up to Mandarin Cove, where all of the PBA staff cheered her arrival!

Thank you, Trish and Portland Business Alliance for using our Portland Pedicabs for your big day!

Portland Pedicabs delivers Smiles & Sole Support Guests

Portland Pedicabs was invited to help provide transportation and fun waterfront cruises in Willamette Park for Sole Support, the 7th annual Parkinson’s Disease awareness walk.

Our Pedicabs were very helpful shuttling folks from parking to the event and providing the kids and young at heart enjoyable chariot rides in our rickshaws!

A steady stream of participants and supporters kept us pedaling in one of Portland’s great riverfront parks.  We were so happy to help provide useful transportainment for such a good cause!

Hope to see you all again!
Thanks for having Portland Pedicabs help out at such an enjoyable event!

Pedaling Newborn Baby Kestrel home in a Portland Pedicab

Portland Pedicabs was honored to pedal home Kestrel, David and Katie’s newborn baby.

We arrived at the birthing center, ready to roll baby home for the first time.  The route was so pleasant and wonderful, cruising the SE Ankeny Neighborhood Greenway and pedaling past the Ladd’s Addition Rose Gardens.  Right as we departed, our good friends Timo and Esther rolled past on their bikes offering congratulations.

This was Katie and David’s second child.  We helped pedal home Jasper when he was born on Thanksgiving of 2009.  They are committed cycling activists that want to introduce their children to the world without a motor vehicle.  David handcrafted beautiful wooden boxes for a Yuba Mundo for carrying the kids!

It has been a great pleasure to watch Jasper grow at the different bike rides in Portland.  I look forward to watching Kestrel grow up in the community, as well.

Thanks for including Portland Pedicabs in your family’s important day!

Blind Date to the Torture Dungeon!

Portland Pedicabs gets all sorts of crazy calls! The more creative, the better! We have pedaled Seski the Oregon Sasquatch, a conductor for a rolling bicycle symphony, and the University of Oregon Duck as the Grand Marshall for the Rose Parade!  This pedicab ride was definitely one of the most unusual!

Portland Pedicab Blind Date

Blind Date Pedicab Expedition

We were hired to pedal a young couple, Helen and Ryan, on a blind date!  Their good friend Justin had planned their night.  They had no idea where they were being whisked off to in our Portland Pedicab.  We arrived to the Alameda Brewhouse and announced that our pedicab was to be their chariot for the evening. Of course, Ryan and Helen wanted to know where they were being taken.  I told them, “To the ends of the Earth! Where we are going, you just need to keep an open mind and an open heart.  We are going to learn a lot this evening.”  They were not comforted by this response, but definitely curious!

Once they had finished their drinks and were ready to leave, we departed. Embarking on the longest pedicab ride ever!  In the course of the evening our Portland Pedicab pedaled over 25 miles!  Our stereo serenading them as we pedaled and pedaled.  We rolled through the suburbs and then the exurbs.  It was definitely the frontier of pedicab territory, there were no other tricycles to be seen.  The rare pedestrian would smile widely as they saw our Portland Pedicab roll towards them in this uncharted territory.

The sun had completely set and we continued rolling.  We rolled on bike lanes, Neighborhood Greenways, bike paths, main arterials, sidewalks, everywhere.  We finally approached their destination.  I rolled them up to the door of a nondescript house and told them to ring the doorbell and ask for Mistress Valhalla.

Their jaws dropped.  Unfortunately for Ryan and Helen, we had a timeline to keep.  They needed to ring the doorbell.

Mistress Valhalla's Dungeon and Toys

Mistress Valhalla met us at her door and led us into her Dungeon.  She gave us a tour of her masterfully created and well thought out Dungeon.  She had the finest massage tables and the newest technology in whips and paddles. The most organized and cleanest torture chamber that this rickshaw driver has ever seen!  Justin had thought of all the details when planning this date and had made sure to have a place for myself to watch the exhibition.  What i had been worrying about all night was that Justin and Mistress Valhalla had kindly arranged for me to sit and watch while strapped into the “Bishop’s Chair.”  It was actually more comfortable than i expected.

Helen and Ryan settled into watching Mistress Valhalla demonstrate her various toys on her “slave.”  She also had her slave serve the guests wine and pie that Justin had provided.  They enjoyed the demonstration and their dessert.  Mistress Valhalla was very knowledgeable about her toys and showed them all the different leathers and whether the synthetics were dishwasher safe!

Afterwards, we made a long pedal through the city, again traversing through sidewalks and busy streets; relaxing on the Neighborhood Greenways. We pedaled back towards downtown and they were much more relaxed together now that they had been through the previous experience.

Portland Pedicab Blind Date

Blind Date Pedicab Expedition

I had instructions to give them their next clue: “Diamonds are Forever, make a playlist.” Again, they were confused but happily hoping that the rest of the evening might be more traditional entertainment. The ride was very nice and we slowly made it to Tony Starlights on 37th and Sandy for their final leg of the night, a Neil Diamond Tribute!

It was such fun to pedal this couple in our Portland Pedicab, thanks to the creatively conspiring Justin!

Portland Pedicab Tour at SE Sunday Parkways

Portland Pedicabs had a great time pedaling many folks on Parkways tours!

Our Pedicabs were used to celebrate a 75th birthday! We had three generations of ladies cycling with us.  Grandma rode in our pedicab and mom and grand daughter traded places between our pedicab and their bike.  It was a great tour and a great route.  We ran across many friends.  Grandma was visiting Portland for the first time and was so excited to be able to enjoy Sunday Parkways in our Portland Pedicab with her family.  Mom & granddaughter live on SE Clinton, so we picked them up at their house on the route!

We also had the chance to pedal uber-activist, Jeff Bernards and his good friend in our pedicab.  Both of them.were under doctor’s orders to not ride a bike, and they did not want to miss the Parkways fun…so their prescription for participating in Sunday Parkways was a Portland Pedicab!  They brought squirt guns with them and were having a constant water war in the back of our chariot.

See you at the next Parkways!

If you know.someone who wants to enjoy Portland Sunday Parkways, but have mobility issues. Please have them contact us at Portland Pedicabs at portlandpedals@gmail.com
